Therapy for Anxiety and Depression

Depression and anxiety can take a toll on our lives. They can rob us of joy and make it difficult to participate in life.
Constant worry and dread are common companions of anxiety. It feels like you are caught in a loop of thoughts. You don’t know how to get out, and it is hard to breathe. Worries and fears hold you captive. You have lost friends, opportunities and maybe even jobs because you couldn’t find your way through. You feel out of control, but you often keep your feelings hidden. There is a weight on you that makes it hard to breathe, and you don’t know how to free yourself from this burden. Without help, you start to feel depressed.
It can become difficult to complete activities like getting ready for the day, eating, or answering messages from friends and family. It is hard to believe that things can get better. These thoughts and feelings may make you feel ashamed, and you withdraw even more. You criticize yourself for not being able to push past the pain. You might put on a smile to please others, but happiness only exists on the surface.
If you can relate, take a deep breath. There is hope.
Life can get better! Working together, we will focus on developing tools that empower you to take back control of your thoughts and emotions. Here are a few tips to get started:
Start by caring for yourself: Rest, eat nutritious foods, listen to music you love, sit in the sun, find movement if it is accessible (walk, stretch, dance etc.).
Challenge negative thoughts: Begin with the way you talk to yourself; be gentle; remind yourself that criticism is not helpful.
Build a gratitude practice: Take time every day to find things you are thankful for; they can be small. Pause to connect with what you have identified. What about this makes you grateful?
Practice mindfulness: Check out this link of one of my presentations on mindfulness to get started. https://youtu.be/OFtlW65AlYA.
