Therapy for Trauma in Michigan
Trauma can be subtle. You may find it difficult to trust people. Even when you want to let your guard down, you don’t know how to be vulnerable. It has become second nature to guard your emotions, and you aren’t sure how to access them anymore. This can leave you feeling disconnected and needing validation to feel secure in relationships, at work and in social interactions.
Trauma often impacts our view of ourselves as well. You likely question your decisions or condemn your behaviors. Your inner voice is frequently unkind and critical. It tells you that you are not good enough or worthy of love.
If you can relate, take a deep breath. There is hope.
These thoughts and feelings have a powerful influence on our health. The lingering effects of trauma don’t just influence emotions but our physical health as well. It might be affecting your sleep, causing headaches, stomach upset or heart palpitations.
There are strategies that are proven to help regulate emotions and our nervous system. We will use mindfulness, meditation and somatic (body focused) interventions to help you to feel more in control. We will also focus on self-compassion and challenging thoughts, using cognitive behavioral therapy, to change unhealthy thought patterns that stand in the way of the life you want.
